Trans & Thriving Courses FAQs
What is Trans and Thriving: First Steps Forward about?
Trans & Thriving: First Steps Forward is an introductory course designed to support trans women/trans femmes who are in the early stages of their transition The course focuses on building confidence, self-empowerment, and practical knowledge to help you navigate the challenges and opportunities that come with being trans. Whether you’re just starting to explore your gender identity, beginning your transition, or seeking tools to live more authentically, this course provides a safe, affirming space for you to learn and grow.
The course covers a range of topics, including:
Self-discovery and identity exploration: Understanding your gender and the importance of self-acceptance.
Practical guidance on transition: Information on hormone therapy, social transition, and navigating medical and social systems.
Building confidence and self-care: Strategies to boost your self-esteem, manage dysphoria, and develop self-compassion.
Navigating relationships and community: Tips for coming out, connecting with others, and finding support networks.
Dealing with challenges: Advice on managing discrimination, hate, and other difficulties specific to the trans experience.
The course is designed to be flexible and participant-led, allowing you to engage at your own pace, with plenty of opportunities for discussion, reflection, and support. It’s a welcoming environment where you can ask questions, share experiences, and take your first steps towards thriving as your authentic self.
How is this course different from therapy?
Although my ‘Trans and Thriving’ courses touch on some emotional stuff, in a therapy session, we would delve a bit deeper and work together to uncover any trauma, underlying issues and/or childhood experiences contributing to those emotions.
Can I access this course if I am already engaging in therapy sessions with you?
No, if you are currently in therapy sessions with me, you are not able to attend the Trans and Thriving course until our therapeutic relationship has concluded. This is to maintain a clear boundary between the supportive, therapeutic work we do together and the group learning environment of the course. Therapy is a space focused on deep personal exploration and healing, while the course is designed as a collective, educational experience.
Once our therapy sessions have ended, you are welcome to join the course as it will offer a different kind of support, focusing on empowerment, practical tools, and community connection. This ensures that you can engage with the course in a way that is separate from your therapeutic work, allowing you to get the most from both experiences.
If you have any questions or are unsure whether you’re eligible, please feel free to reach out for clarification.
`Can I access therapy with you after completing the course?
Yes, absolutely! After completing the Trans and Thriving course, you are welcome to book therapy sessions with me. The course is designed to provide support and empowerment in a group setting, while therapy offers a more personal, tailored space to explore deeper issues and challenges.
If you feel that therapy would be beneficial for you after the course, please don’t hesitate to reach out to arrange a session. I’m here to support you in both your journey of self-discovery and in any therapeutic work you may wish to continue.
If you have any questions about how the course and therapy might work together, feel free to contact me for more information.
How can I sign up for the course?
Please click here. You will find further information and an online booking form.
Is the course online or in person?
The course will be offered online to ensure it is accessible to trans women wherever they are.
General FAQs
What is Maya Therapy?
Maya Therapy is my online platform that encompasses my therapy services, courses, public speaking, and writing. It is a welcoming and affirming space for individuals seeking support, connection, and learning.
How do I know which service is right for me?
If you’re unsure, I offer a free 30-minute online chat to discuss your goals and preferences. This conversation can help you determine which service may best suit your needs at this time.
How do you ensure your spaces are safe?
At Maya’s Therapy, creating a safe and affirming environment is at the heart of everything I do. I understand that safety means different things to different people, and I am committed to making sure that everyone who engages with me feels heard, respected, and supported.
Here are the key ways I ensure my spaces are safe:
Respectful Boundaries: I have clear, respectful boundaries in place for all interactions, whether in therapy sessions, group courses, or community activities. I prioritise consent and make sure that everyone feels comfortable with the space they’re in.
Inclusive Policies: My approach is explicitly LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I work to create an environment that celebrates diversity and individuality. I provide support specifically designed for queer people, but all identities are welcomed and respected.
Confidentiality: I maintain strict confidentiality in all my services, ensuring that personal information shared in therapy or any course stays private unless there's a risk of harm. I also respect the privacy of those sharing personal experiences in group settings.
Ongoing Consultation and Feedback: I regularly ask for feedback from my clients, course participants, and community members to ensure that my services and environments continue to meet their needs. I actively listen to their concerns and am always ready to make changes if necessary.
Training and Empathy: I bring both professional training and lived experience to my work, allowing me to connect with and understand the unique challenges faced by the people I support. I am trained to manage sensitive situations and foster an inclusive, non-judgmental space.
By embedding these practices into everything I do, I aim to create a place where everyone can feel safe to explore, learn, and grow without fear of discrimination or harm. If at any time you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, I encourage open communication so I can address any concerns promptly.
