Training for Counsellors: Supporting Trans &/or Non Binary Clients
As more people explore their gender, it’s essential for counsellors to feel equipped to support their trans &/or non-binary clients. My Training for Counsellors programme is designed to help you expand your understanding of the unique experiences of trans and/or non-binary individuals, ensuring your practice is inclusive, compassionate, and affirming.
About the Training
With over 20 years of experience working with LGBTQIA+ communities and as a proud trans woman myself, I offer specialised training to help counsellors feel confident and knowledgeable in supporting trans &/or non-binary clients. This training equips you with the tools, language, and approaches needed to create a safe therapeutic environment for gender-diverse individuals.
What You'll Learn
The Training for Counsellors programme covers a range of topics designed to deepen your understanding and improve your practice. Topics include:
Gender Identity and Expression: Understanding the complexities of gender identity, the differences between gender identity, expression, and sexual orientation, and the spectrum of gender experiences.
Common Challenges: Recognising and supporting clients through issues such as gender dysphoria, coming out, transitioning, and navigating social, familial, and professional relationships.
Affirming Language and Practices: Learning the importance of language, pronouns, and respectful communication. Creating a safe and affirming space for trans and/or non-binary clients.
Supporting Mental Health: Addressing the mental health challenges that disproportionately affect trans and/or non-binary people, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, while helping clients build resilience and self-compassion.
Counsellor Self-Reflection: Exploring your own assumptions and biases, and learning how to provide truly inclusive and empathetic support.
This training is interactive and includes case studies, discussions, and practical exercises, ensuring that you leave with both the knowledge and practical skills to better serve your trans &/or non-binary clients.
